A historic building, a critical need, and a community ready to step up.
Located on Lot 86 of the 1838 Original Plat of Bluffton, the building at 119 S. Johnson St. was built around 1876. Over nearly 150 years, it has been home to a tin shop, saloon, grocery store, doctor's office, home furnishings store, jewelry store, and beauty salon.
Today it serves as the headquarters for the Wells County Democratic Party, and an integral part of the downtown district of Bluffton.
The weathered black rubber membrane roofing system is in critical need of replacement. It may be out of sight, but it is no longer out of mind.
Roofing quotes received in February 2026 came in between $18,500 and $25,000. The final price may increase. We need to complete this project before winter arrives.
On Tuesday, March 24, the Bluffton Board of Works approved a request presented by Bluffton NOW! to help fund this roof replacement project. The amount granted was $5,600, which will be reimbursed once the project is completed and paid. This money needs to be spent before the end of 2026.
The Wells County Democratic Party is now launching this fundraising campaign to close the remaining gap and protect this community landmark for years to come. Every contribution, large or small, gets us closer to the goal.
Choose the method that works best for you. Every dollar goes directly toward the roof replacement.
